Eating out: Hawksmoor burgers

As lovely as these were, I think I’m a fan of the simple, no-fuss, juicy burgers from Shake Shack. Apologies for the terribly fuzzy photos. I was a bit excited by all the burger-ness.

New York Eating Part 5

My first Liberian cuisine at Maima in Queens — it was amazing. The flavours were spicy, deep and oh-so-satisfying. There was a crab dish as well, but it was so spicy that one taste of it sent me into a frenzy and I couldn’t operate my camera.

^ Chicken gravy with African herbs fried or roasted in Maima’s special sauce.

^ Can’t remember what this was, but it was delish!.

^ Fried plantain.

^ The awesomely named fufu.

New York Eating Part 1

It was often too hot for me to really work up an appetite, but I did get a few choice meals in.

^ The best burger I’ve had so far. I think I must just like simple burgers.. I preferred theses to Hawksmoors’ (tasty as Hawksmoors’ were!). Juicy patty, yummy flavours.

Traditional Finnish feasting

^ Karelian pie! There’s something deeply comforting about this carb-on-carb, shell-like thing. It’s almost cheesy, but it’s not. Best eaten warm with slabs of butter.

^ Hernekeitto (pea soup) Thursdays! Pea soup always goes with pancakes.

^ Leipajuusto cheese. A little sweet. A little salty. A little squidgy. Dreamy cheese. Especially when heated a little. I like how it squeaks a bit when you chew it.

^ Leipajuusto cheese with a berry jam.

^ Pannukakku (pancake) with apple jam.
